A brief history

An extremely important permanent necessity was and is the systematic postgraduate training of doctors. The training of dental professionals, in its initial phase, took place within the specialized departments - therapeutic, orthopedic and dental surgery. Later, for this purpose, special training and specialization courses for doctors were established:

The training of dental therapists began in 1975. It was carried out within the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of the State Institute of Medicine in Chisinau (ISMC), later reorganized into the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemițanu", responsible for the organization being dr. sth. med., assistant university A. ENI.

The therapeutic and pediatric dentistry course was organized in February 1977 and was led by conf. A. Cuşnir. The initial composition of this course being: A. Cuşnir (head), A. Eni, (assistant), Z. Timofei (laboratorian). The bases of the course were the dental departments of: Polyclinic No. 11, Republican Clinical Hospital, City Children's Polyclinic No. 4. Currently these bases are: Botanic Territorial Medical Association, Republican Center of Cardiology. The therapeutic and children's dentistry course initially organized cycles for the improvement of dentists from Moldova and Ukraine with the following themes: Specialization, General improvement in therapeutic dentistry, Improvement in general dentistry, Improvement in pediatric dentistry, Thematic improvement (Periodontal and oral mucosa diseases). Annually, 30-40 dentists and 10-12 pediatric dentists trained at this course. The study groups included 5 students. The cycle of general training in dentistry lasted four months, and thematic training lasted two months.

During the years 1980-1988, specialists in the field of dentistry were invited to give lectures: the head of the department of pediatric dentistry Prof. T. Vinogradova (Institute for the Improvement of Doctors in Moscow); the head of the department of therapeutic dentistry Prof. Iu. Fiodorov (Institute for the Improvement of Doctors in Saint-Petersburg)

The therapeutic and pediatric dentistry course was inaugurated in 1977 and led by prof. A. Cuşnir, and between 1986-1991 it was included in the Department of Dentistry of the FPM under the leadership of prof. univ. M. Buşan. In 1986, the first department of dentistry was founded at the Faculty of Medical Education - FPM Dentistry Department (head - prof. M. Buşan) on the basis of the union of orthopedic dentistry, dental surgery, and therapeutic dentistry courses (named above). It existed until 1991 when, thanks to the overload of the increased number of students, the department was split into: Department of Therapeutic Dentistry FPM (head - prof. V. Burlacu), Orthopedics and Dental Surgery Course FPM (head - prof. . M.Buşan), FPM oral-maxillo-facial surgery course (head – university professor V.Topalo).

The "Therapeutic Dentistry" department was founded in 1991, on the basis of the former course of Therapeutic and Pediatric Dentistry of the Faculty of Medical Education. It is led by the university professor V. Burlacu, who carried out a prodigious activity by developing and promoting programs regarding the new modern directions in dentistry "Restorative therapy", "Clinical and practical endodontics" etc. a. with the subsequent training of Moldovan dentists since 1994. Between 2013-2015, the chair was included in the composition of the OMF Department of Surgery, oral implantology and therapeutic dentistry "Arsenie Guțan". From September 2015, it was reformed in the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of the Faculty of Dentistry, chair Valeriu Fala. The clinical bases of the department served the dental departments of AMT Centru, AMT Botanica, the clinical hospital of the Ministry of Health and the Dispensary of the National Cardiology Center.

The contemporary practical medical activity, the emergence of new methods of diagnosis and treatment, caused by the department new and competitive efforts in the organization of the didactic activity. Continuous medical improvement involves adjusting to international standards, developing analytical programs, courses and practical lessons related to the imperatives of the time
